I recently had to replace a Intel G3250 for not meeting the needs of a desktop. The computer has a H81M-E33, and looking at the list of compatible CPUs and analyzing their costs, I saw on the Xeon E3-1220 v3 a good upgrade possibility.
One issue that may be a problem with these processors is not having an integrated graphics card, but the desktop used has a GeForce GTX 970, replacing the integrated one.
I was able to find the Xeon for $ 350 on the Free Market, about half the price of i5 equivalents.
